The Ankara cat is one of the oldest long-haired breeds in the world and is currently an endangered species. Known as the 'Angora' cat in Europe, the breed is characterized by its silky long fur and elegant stance.

Pursaklar Mayor Ertuğrul Çetin stated that the facility was established to increase awareness of Ankara cats and ensure the continuation of their breed. He noted that the concept for the live broadcast followed the introduction of Ankara cats to foreign delegations during the NATO Summit held in Ankara.
The Ankara cat is one of two endemic cat breeds in Turkey; the other is the Van cat, which lives in the Lake Van basin and is also an endangered species.
