Advertising

We show advertisements served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to personalise and measure ads. If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, a consent dialog (Google's certified consent management platform) asks for your choice before any advertising cookie is set; you can refuse, and you can change your choice at any time via the "Privacy settings" link in the consent dialog. Details of Google's processing are described in Google's partner sites policy. Our own analytics (Umami, above) remains cookie-free and is not connected to advertising.

Data we may process

AI processing of published content

Our articles are drafted with the assistance of AI language models. Article drafting, editorial review and legal review are processed by a set of AI providers depending on task and tier: Google Gemini, OpenAI, xAI (Grok) and Anthropic (Claude). Where a provider processes data outside the EU (OpenAI, xAI and Anthropic are US companies), the transfer relies on that provider's EU-US Data Privacy Framework (DPF) certification or standard contractual clauses. Our pipeline includes a pseudonymisation layer for personal identifiers; it is at present disabled by editorial decision, which means the text our models process — drawn from already-published news reporting — is transmitted as it appears in the source material, including names of the individuals the news is about. Surrounding context, organisation names and the narrative of an event are transmitted in all cases, and a well-known individual may remain identifiable from that context. See AI Transparency for the full description.
