Luke Gosling, the federal Labor member for Solomon, was arrested on Thursday morning. The arrest relates to an alleged assault on Northern Territory Administrator David Connolly.
Reports concerning the alleged incident are conflicting regarding the time and location. Accounts differ on the nature of the gathering, with some describing it as a cultural festival in Darwin while others indicate a community event at the official residence on July 18.
Northern Territory Police stated that investigations into the matter began last week. The Administrator's office said the incident had been referred to police.
Gosling has previously denied the allegations. He called the claims ridiculous allegations that he categorically denies.
As of Thursday morning, Gosling had not been charged. Environment Minister Murray Watt said he had seen that Luke Gosling strenuously denied the allegations.
Gosling is reported to be a former army commando and serves as the government's special envoy for defence and veterans affairs. He has held the seat of Solomon since 2016.
