Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has claimed that secret talks between representatives of Russia and Germany took place in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, without his knowledge.
Aliyev said he could 'only welcome it' if the secret talks helped end the Ukraine war.
In a statement, Aliyev indicated that the discussions were held in Azerbaijan but that he was not informed beforehand. He added that he would 'only welcome it' if such negotiations could contribute to ending the war in Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated he has no information regarding these reported meetings, saying, 'I don't have any information about this meeting, so I have nothing to tell you.' Meanwhile, President Aliyev clarified that the Russian and German officials were present in Baku simultaneously earlier in July, further noting that the discussions held during this time may have focused on the conflict in Ukraine.
