A homemade bomb detonated near the entrance of the Philippine Department of Justice (DOJ) on the morning of July 27. The blast occurred shortly after midnight and resulted in no casualties.
The total number of police officers scheduled to be deployed for the State of the Nation Address (SONA).
In addition to the detonation, a suspected unexploded device was located near the Philippine Senate. The item was identified during a routine inspection by the Special Security Unit at approximately 8:00 AM local time.
A tow truck driver also spotted the device on a street adjacent to the building just before 8:30 AM. The Philippine National Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal team subsequently neutralized the threat.
Materials recovered from the Senate site included a blasting cap, a clock, and a jar containing brown powder.
Investigation and Presidential Address
National police chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. indicated a high possibility that the two incidents are related.
"Investigation is ongoing to determine the source, nature, and circumstances surrounding the explosion."
During his address, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. discussed domestic infrastructure, mentioning approximately 200 energy projects currently in development to increase supply and lower costs.
The President also announced a planned rocket launch test for next year in Cagayan, conducted in partnership with a South Korean aerospace company.
"We must protect them from the harmful influences and forces that exploit their vulnerability..."
The President specifically addressed threats such as fake news, pornography, casual violence, and social media hate culture.
Regarding maritime security, the President committed to upholding the 2016 arbitral ruling that rejects China's claims in the South China Sea.
