Interim Senator Darline Graham advanced to an August 25 runoff in South Carolina's special Republican Senate primary, setting up a head-to-head contest with Representative Ralph Norman.

Graham, the sister of the late US Senator Lindsey Graham, was appointed to her position in July by Governor Henry McMaster following Lindsey Graham's death. Lindsey Graham had already secured the Republican nomination for a full Senate term before he died.

Darline Graham's share with more than a third of ballots counted, according to NBC News reporting.

Graham was among 10 Republicans competing in Tuesday's special primary. With more than a third of the expected ballots counted, she was receiving about 33% of the vote, while Reps. Russell Fry and Ralph Norman each drew about 23%, according to NBC News reporting during the counting process.

Graham has leaned into her support for President Donald Trump, who endorsed her campaign and encouraged her to enter the race.
