A power transmission line is planned to carry electricity from a solar power plant in Güzle, Geyikbayırı Mahallesi, Konyaaltı, Antalya, Turkey. The project is being carried out by Tahtakale Spot Gıda Sanayi GES A.Ş.
The Geyikbayırı Yaşam Platformu opposes the current route of the transmission line, stating that poles and conductors will be placed next to important climbing sectors.
The platform claims the line will ruin views and negatively impact local tourism.
The platform reports that Geyikbayırı hosts tens of thousands of athletes and contains over 1,000 rock climbing routes.
Demands and legal actions
The Geyikbayırı Yaşam Platformu has held meetings with the Konyaaltı Kaymakamlığı, informed the Antalya Valiliği, and made written applications to relevant public institutions.
The platform demands that the affected section be rerouted or that underground cabling be used instead. They have called for Tahtakale to stop work in the critical section.
The platform claims a comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment process was not conducted and that stakeholders were not informed until construction began. They also stated that institutional opinions and necessary permits for the line have largely been obtained.
While the platform noted that Tahtakale is a growing company with an important place in the regional economy, they emphasized that protecting Geyikbayırı is a common issue for Antalya.
