A fire broke out at the Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim oil refinery in Ufa, Russia, on Saturday following a drone attack, according to reports from local officials and residents. The refinery is owned by Bashneft, which is controlled by the Russian state energy company Rosneft.
Bashkiria Republic Governor Radi Khabirov confirmed that drones attacked Ufa, though he claimed the attack was repelled. Khabirov stated that downed drones fell into the industrial area and caused smoke, but reported no victims.
The alleged drone strike on the Ufa refinery took place more than 1,300 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
Strikes across Russia and Ukraine
The Ukrainian General Staff reported that its forces struck several Russian military targets on the night of August 1. These strikes included a Russian naval drone storage and maintenance base near Chornomorske in occupied Crimea, as well as a repair base near Pervomaiske, Crimea, and a logistics center near Podove in the Kherson oblast.
Further reports from the Ukrainian General Staff included hits on a Russian Black Sea Fleet electronic intelligence unit in occupied Sevastopol, a drone storage site near occupied Tokmak in the Zaporizhzhia oblast, and the Sovashi railway bridge near Chonhar and another railway bridge near Vladislavivka in occupied Crimea.
The General Staff also reported strikes on energy facilities in Russian-controlled parts of the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions, and drone strikes targeting the industrial zone of Nizhnekamskneftekhim in the Tatarstan region of Russia.
A fire broke out at a large petrochemical plant in Nizhnekamsk, Tatarstan, Russia, on Friday evening, according to local officials. The plant is located more than 1,200 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
Casualties in Kyiv
According to Ukrainian authorities, Russia conducted a missile attack on Kyiv, Ukraine, overnight before Saturday. The attack resulted in at least nine deaths and 28 injuries.
Among the 28 injured in Kyiv were boys aged 13 and 17. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said 17 injured people have been hospitalized.
Military updates
The Ukrainian General Staff reported that Russia lost 1,470 soldiers in a single day.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated that the Russian Vostok (East) group of forces captured the village of Liubytske in the Zaporizhzhia region, Ukraine.
