A former police officer wanted for the murder of his wife and child sex charges has been captured in China after spending years on the run, authorities said.

The fugitive, Daniel Hiers Jr., also known as Dan Hiers, was a former officer of the Charleston Police Department, according to reports. He was wanted for the murder of his wife and on child sex charges.

Hiers was on the U.S. Marshals' 15 Most Wanted list and his case was featured on the television program 'America's Most Wanted,' sources said.

The duration of his time on the run has been reported differently by two sources: one says 21 years, another says 20 years.
