An explosion struck a US-owned and operated, Marshall Islands-flagged floating LNG storage facility at Egypt's Damietta Port on Wednesday evening, according to maritime risk firm Ambrey.
Ambrey reported the incident but did not immediately provide details on the cause of the explosion, casualties, or damage.
ICC Shipping, another maritime source, reported that the explosion occurred during cargo discharge operations at the port's LNG terminal. Local authorities responded promptly and brought the situation under control, according to ICC Shipping.
The vessels involved were safely relocated outside the port area, and port operations are expected to resume overnight at other berths and terminals, ICC Shipping stated.
Neither Ambrey nor ICC Shipping has identified the cause of the explosion. Egyptian authorities have not immediately commented on the incident.
