Ghazi Hamad, a member of Hamas' negotiating delegation, stated that the group will not take any steps toward disarmament unless Israel fully fulfills its obligations under the agreement. Speaking to the Qatar-based Al Jazeera television channel, Hamad linked the issue of disarmament directly to Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and the territory's reconstruction.
Hamad asserted that Israel would have no role in the disarmament process, which he said would instead be carried out by Palestinian national committee. He described the ongoing negotiations as difficult and tough, while affirming that Hamas remains committed to its national goals of protecting the rights of the Palestinian people.
The Hamas official claimed that Israel committed approximately 3,500 violations during the first phase of the Sharm el-Sheikh Agreement. Despite these accusations, Hamad thanked Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye for their mediation efforts in helping reach the agreement.
US Announces Historic Agreement
In contrast to Hamas' conditional stance, US President Donald Trump announced on his social media account that the Board of Peace had reached a historic agreement for the complete disarmament of Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza. Trump described the deal as a historic breakthrough and credited Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye for helping broker the agreement.
According to source one, Israeli forces would withdraw from the Gaza Strip once disarmament is completed. However, source two indicates that Trump stated Israeli forces would withdraw in phases as the disarmament process moves forward, presenting a discrepancy in the timeline of military withdrawal.
The ceasefire, which took effect on October 10, 2025, is being overseen by the Board of Peace, chaired by US President Donald Trump. The agreement was brokered under Trump's 20-point plan for Gaza and provides for an International Stabilization Force working alongside a new Palestinian police force to assume responsibility for security in the enclave.
Humanitarian Context
The conflict has resulted in significant casualties and destruction. Reports indicate that Israel's war on Gaza has killed more than 73,000 Palestinians and injured over 174,000 others, most of them women and children. Additionally, about 90% of the enclave's infrastructure has been destroyed.
Despite the ceasefire, Israel has continued daily attacks across Gaza, killing 1,214 Palestinians and injuring 3,977 others.
