Insta360 has announced the X6, the next iteration of its 360-degree action camera series.
The X6 features a design that is one inch shorter and 4 grams lighter than the X5 and X4 Air models.
The camera utilizes a pair of custom 1/1.1-inch square sensors from Sony, which Insta360 states provide 33 percent more sensor area and four times the light intake per frame compared to the 1/1.28-inch sensors used in the X5.

Video and imaging capabilities
The X6 can record 8K video at up to 50fps, an increase from the X5's 8K at 30fps capability.
In 'Bullet Time' mode, the device supports 6K video at up to 120fps and 4K video at up to 240fps. The camera is also capable of capturing 120-megapixel 360-degree still images.
When using only one sensor, the X6 can capture 42-megapixel still images.
For professional use, the X6 supports 10-bit color and i-Log shooting mode, and it captures Dolby Vision metadata for HDR footage.
AI integration and hardware
The hardware includes a Triple AI chip system, consisting of an 8-core 4nm processor at 3.3GHz and two dedicated imaging chips.
The camera features an AI model called PanoMind, which was trained on over 10,000 hours of 360-degree footage across more than 30 scenarios. This model, alongside the 'AI Director' tool, can automatically create highlight reels and videos while the camera is charging.
The X6 is reported to be the first 360-degree camera with in-camera Dolby Vision support.
Battery, durability, and accessories
The X6 is equipped with a 2,600mAh battery, which is larger than the 2,400mAh battery in the X5. Insta360 claims this provides up to 140 minutes of recording time at 8K/30fps, which is 51 percent longer than the X5.

The device features improved waterproofing up to a depth of 66 feet (20 meters). Additionally, the replaceable lenses are described as being five times more scratch-resistant and 60 percent cheaper than those of the X5.
The camera includes a 2.32-inch OLED touchscreen, replacing the 2.5-inch LCD found on the X5.
Pricing and availability
The Insta360 X6 Standard Edition is priced at $699.99. An Essentials Bundle, which includes an additional battery, an invisible selfie stick, and a fast charging case, is available for $799.99.
The X6 is available in black or white and can be purchased through the company’s online store and other retailers.
