Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Bekayi stated that the country has never allowed and will never allow the United States to determine its times of war and peace. Bekayi said Iran will utilize either defense or diplomacy as needed.
Regarding regional developments, Bekayi noted that the US changed its position on the Saudi Arabian nuclear deal within 24 hours by linking it to the Abraham Accords. US President Donald Trump stated that a civilian nuclear deal with Saudi Arabia would be conditional on the kingdom joining the Abraham Accords.
Bekayi emphasized that all countries maintain the right to peaceful nuclear activities under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Military deployments and diplomatic tensions
The spokesperson addressed the deployment of US refueling planes to Bezmer Air Base in Bulgaria. Bekayi claimed that the Bulgarian parliament and a large portion of the Bulgarian people do not support the deployment to the base.
Diplomatic friction also persists with France, which claimed that two of its diplomatic personnel were detained in Iran. Bekayi stated that the activities of the French diplomats violated the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and characterized the actions as interference in Iran's internal affairs under the guise of supporting civil society.
Shipping and regional security
Talks between Iran and an Omani delegation concerning shipping regulations in the Strait of Hormuz were described as positive. The United States was not involved in these discussions. The Strait of Hormuz remains closed to shipping.
Bekayi referred to the US, Israel, and Ukraine as an 'evil triangle.' There are reports that Ukraine targeted an Iranian ship in the Caspian Sea, which allegedly resulted in the death of a sailor.
Iran is currently not holding negotiations with the United States.
