The Jacques Chirac Museum in Sarran, Corrèze, France, was burglarized during the night of Wednesday, August 5, to Thursday, August 6.
According to reports, this incident constitutes the third theft at the museum within ten months, although some sources describe it as the second burglary in less than a year.
The museum is temporarily closed following the latest burglary, during which various collectible items were stolen.
Investigation and local presence
The French media outlet ICI Limousin reported the burglary occurred around 4:00 AM. A source close to the investigation confirmed to franceinfo that gendarmes of the Tulle brigade were conducting initial findings on Thursday morning with helicopter support.
Claude Chirac, daughter of the former French head of state and departmental councilor of Corrèze, was present in Sarran on Thursday morning but did not wish to speak to the media.
Museum collection
The museum houses 5,000 diplomatic gifts offered to former French President Jacques Chirac during his terms from 1995 to 2007, as well as to other presidents. The collection includes a Japanese samurai helmet and a leather jacket gifted by Barack Obama to François Hollande.
