The judge who dismissed the lawsuit, and who presided over the dismissal of every claim filed by the Justice Department, was nominated by US President Donald Trump. Additionally, the court ruled that the state of Minnesota cannot be compelled to assist ICE, a decision stemming from the administration's argument that the state's sanctuary laws violate the Supremacy Clause of the US Constitution.
