The Lebanese army stated that ongoing Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon hinder its deployment under existing agreements and prevent the return of displaced residents.
The military announced the start of its deployment in Zawtar al-Gharbiya as part of the first phase of a US-mediated framework agreement between Beirut and Tel Aviv.
Despite this move, the army reported that Israeli forces continue systematic destruction and bulldozing of homes, shelling, and machine-gun fire in several southern areas of Lebanon.
Official Lebanese figures state Israeli attacks have killed 4,330 people and injured 12,236 since March 2.
Attacks on Infrastructure and Agriculture
Israeli forces bombed a water project belonging to a local entity in the town of Markaba. The army also reported that Israeli troops burned ancient olive trees and vast agricultural lands, most recently on the outskirts of Aitaroun.
Israeli army fire was reported near Lebanese army positions in several towns, including Nabatieh al-Fawqa and Zawtar al-Gharbiya.
Occupation and Agreement Violations
Israel continues to occupy parts of southern Lebanon, some held for decades and others seized during the previous war from October 2023 to November 2024.
