Life expectancy at birth in Turkey has risen to 78.5 years for the 2023-2025 period, according to the Life Tables published by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK). This marks an increase of 0.4 years compared to the previous period (2022-2024), when life expectancy was 78.1 years.

78.5 years

Average life expectancy at birth in Turkey for 2023-2025.

The data reveals a persistent gender gap: females have an average life expectancy of 81.1 years, while males average 75.9 years — a difference of 5.2 years. Similar gaps appear at other ages; for example, at age 65, women are expected to live 3.3 years longer than men, with average remaining life expectancies of 20.0 and 16.7 years, respectively.

Higher education significantly correlates with longer life expectancy. At age 30, men with higher education have a remaining life expectancy of 51.9 years, compared to 46.8 years for those with less than secondary education — a gap of 5.1 years. Among women at the same age, those with higher education are expected to live 56.9 more years versus 52.3 for those with lower education, a difference of 4.6 years. Similar education-related gaps are observed at age 65.

TÜİK also reported that healthy life expectancy — the number of years a person can expect to live without limiting health problems — stands at 58.0 years at birth. Notably, men have a slightly higher healthy life expectancy (59.1 years) than women (56.9 years), a reversal of the overall life expectancy trend.
