The arrest occurred at a golf course located in Rancho Palos Verdes, near Los Angeles. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department stated the individual caused suspicion by walking on the course, taking photos and filming, and appearing to monitor security planning activities.
The suspect, identified as Jeanine John Taele, was found with a 16-round magazine containing ammunition in his pants pocket. During a search of Taele's car, deputies seized a loaded pistol and another magazine containing ammunition.
Search of Downey residence
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the FBI anti-terrorist services conducted a search at the suspect's home in Downey, a suburb of Los Angeles. Authorities discovered an assault rifle, a pistol, a bulletproof vest, high-capacity magazines, ammunition, two radios, and several notebooks containing disturbing statements.
Investigators presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office on Tuesday morning. The arrest took place ahead of a scheduled visit by Donald Trump to the California golf course on Tuesday evening for a fundraising dinner organized by the Republican National Committee.
Previous security incidents
This incident follows several security-related events involving the former president. In July 2024, Donald Trump was wounded in the ear by a shooter positioned on a roof during a campaign meeting in Butler, Pennsylvania. In September 2024, an armed man was arrested near the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, while the president was playing.
Additionally, in April, the president was urgently evacuated from a press gala in Washington, DC, after an armed man attempted to enter the room and a shooting occurred.
