The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York will host a solo exhibition titled 'John Galliano: Horizons' in spring 2027, making Galliano only the third living designer to receive such an honor at the museum.
The exhibition will include a section dedicated to the rupture caused by Galliano’s antisemitic, racist, and anti-Asian behavior in 2010 and 2011, following his conviction for public insults based on origin and religion.
In 2011, Galliano was fined 6,000 euros after shouting 'Ich liebe Hitler' and using antisemitic insults while intoxicated at a Parisian bar. Dior dismissed him immediately after the incident.

Following his dismissal, Galliano was brought to Maison Margiela as Creative Director in 2014 by Renzo Rosso.
In the years after his conviction, former Anti-Defamation League director Abraham Foxman arranged for Galliano to study with a rabbi and visit Auschwitz. The ADL later stated it believes Galliano has 'really worked through the problems that led to his antisemitic outburst' and that his apology was accepted long ago.
To prepare for the retrospective, a roundtable was convened with Anna Wintour, Andrew Bolton, John Galliano, and representatives from the New York Jewish community, including rabbis.
The museum's decision reflects a broader culture that is becoming desensitized to antisemitism.
