Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree increasing the staffing level of the Russian armed forces to 2,426,130 people, including 1,535,000 military personnel. The order is set to take effect on August 1.
Compared to the previous decree, the total staffing level has increased by 27,000, with military personnel rising by 25,000.
The stated reason for the decree is 'in connection with the creation of military construction units in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.'
At the end of last year, Putin reported that over 700,000 soldiers are fighting in the war in Ukraine. The Russian army also includes contract and volunteer soldiers serving in Ukraine.
