Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree that allows courts to strip foreign investors who left Russia in 2022 of their right to buy back shares and stakes in Russian companies.
The new regulation applies to foreign investors who left Russia in 2022. Many Western companies exited the Russian market after the start of the Ukraine war, transferring their Russian assets to local investors under agreements that included a right to buy them back later.
Putin said that Western companies were forced to leave the Russian market due to political pressure in their own countries and, as a result, faced serious problems.
