Ten departments in eastern France remain under an orange heatwave alert as of Wednesday, August 6, according to Météo-France.
The heatwave is receding, Météo-France reported. The departments of Ain, Savoie, and Haute-Savoie have been downgraded from orange to yellow heatwave alerts.
The departments remaining under the orange alert include Rhône, Isère, Drôme, Ardèche, Gard, Vaucluse, Var, Alpes-Maritimes, Haute-Corse, and Corse-du-Sud. Fires are still raging in the French departments of Var and Drôme.
Temperature forecasts
Météo-France predicts that very strong heat will regress toward the southeast in the afternoon. Météo-France stated that very strong heat should soon only concern the Mediterranean regions.

Maximum temperatures are forecast to reach 32 to 34 degrees Celsius on a small eastern half of France. In the large western half of France, maximum temperatures are forecast not to exceed 30 degrees Celsius.
