Three siblings were attacked by a bear while working in a field in Largaon Markatola village, near the Narharpur forest area in the Kanker region of Chhattisgarh, India.

Halal Khor Jurri, 38, and Chamrin Bai, 40, died in the attack. A third sibling, Khorin Bai, 30, was injured and taken to a hospital in Kanker for treatment.

Response and outcome

Authorities increased security measures around the village and launched an operation to catch the bear. Following a long-term operation, the bear was captured and neutralized using a tranquilizer needle.

Local residents stated that the female bear became aggressive after one of its cubs died.
