The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office of Istanbul, Turkey, has initiated a legal process to revoke the Turkish citizenship of 687 people determined to have acquired it through irregular means.
Authorities determined that the 687 individuals gained citizenship through irregular procedures. As part of the investigation, Istanbul prosecutors allege that a criminal organization granted citizenship by presenting low-priced real estate as high-value through fake appraisal reports in sales transactions.

According to the police, the operation was launched this morning by the Branch Directorate for Combating Migrant Smuggling and Border Gates of the Istanbul Provincial Police Department. According to reports, approximately 2.5 billion Turkish lira that should have entered Turkey was not brought in; instead, fictitious money movements were created.
It was also reported that benefits were obtained from foreign nationals who wished to acquire Turkish citizenship. The legal process against the organization and the individuals involved is ongoing.
