Alper Gezeravcı, Turkey's first astronaut, has been promoted from colonel to brigadier general. Serving with the rank of Air Pilot Colonel, Gezeravcı was appointed to the command of the Space Command as part of the '2024 General Appointments'.
The promotion decisions were made during the Supreme Military Council (YAŞ) meeting, which was held under the chairmanship of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Gezeravcı received the promotion alongside other high-ranking officers during the council meeting.

During the Supreme Military Council (YAŞ) meeting, 25 generals and admirals were promoted to a higher rank, while 69 colonels were promoted to the rank of general or admiral.
