International graduates who complete higher education in Türkiye may extend their short-term residence permits for an additional year, provided they meet the necessary requirements.

The Council of Higher Education (YÖK) has notified universities of this regulation concerning residence permits for international graduates.

Under the new rules, graduates who apply within six months of their graduation date and receive a one-year short-term residence permit can reapply to extend it for another year. This process could allow for a total of two years of residency.

Objectives of the regulation

The regulation is intended to support international graduates in pursuing postgraduate education, academic studies, and employment opportunities that match their qualifications.

Additionally, the measure aims to strengthen qualified human resources in fields where they are needed in Türkiye.
