A two-year-old boy was found dead in an apartment in the 14th arrondissement of Marseille, France, on Sunday, August 2. The Marseille fire brigade responded to the cité des Marronniers at midday.

A 13-year-old girl from the family raised the alert.

A 35-year-old mother, her 18-year-old partner, and a teenage girl have been placed in police custody following the discovery.

The cause of the child's death remains uncertain. A police source reported that the boy's body showed signs of strangulation.

A police source stated that the statements made by the mother and the partner were not consistent with the child's body temperature given the time of death. While a police source noted the facts initially seemed to suggest an accident, they called for much caution regarding that hypothesis.
