UN human rights experts have condemned recent United States measures against Cuba and urged Washington to lift sanctions, warning that the restrictions are worsening a humanitarian crisis on the island.
The experts stated that the United States government must cease all hostile acts and threats against the sovereignty of Cuba.

On July 23, the United States announced expanded sanctions targeting the energy sector in Cuba. These measures follow an energy blockade implemented in January, which has caused living conditions in the country to deteriorate severely.
The sanctions have hampered fuel imports during a period of acute shortages and recent major nationwide blackouts.
