An unidentified airborne object crashed in eastern Poland during a Russian attack on Ukraine, leaving a 10-meter-wide crater and scattered debris. No casualties were reported.
The object was detected moving westward through Polish airspace at 3:40 a.m. An F-16 fighter jet was sent to intercept, but the object disappeared from radar six minutes later.
A Mi-24 attack helicopter located the probable crash site near Tarnawa-Kolonia in Lublin province, Poland. The debris was found in a field about 2 kilometers from the nearest buildings.
Residents reported a loud explosion. Authorities have not determined whether the object was a drone or missile, or its origin.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk is en route to the site, government spokesperson Adam Szłapka said. Poland urgently launched fighter jets and briefly activated air-raid sirens in Lublin.
Separately, Russia's strikes killed at least eight people across Ukraine overnight, according to reports.
