The US Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee has advanced legislation that would cap the price of insulin at $35 for people with private insurance. The bill now moves to the full Senate.
The committee vote was 17-5, with six Republicans joining every Democrat in support, according to a report.
Another senator stated: 'Insulin saves lives. No American with diabetes should have to go without it.'
The National Taxpayers Union opposes price caps and instead supports removing excessive regulation as a way to lower drug costs.
