US Senate Republican leaders are expected to leave Washington, D.C., for the August recess without voting on the CLARITY Act, pushing the consideration of the crypto market structure legislation to September, according to a report from Politico.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune reportedly confirmed that the chamber was delaying the vote on the bill until September.
Politico reported that the CLARITY Act lacks Democratic support, citing two people with knowledge of the matter. Democrats have declined to approve a time agreement that would expedite the Senate’s remaining pre-recess business and allow the bill to reach the floor.
Negotiations and procedural hurdles
Negotiations regarding the CLARITY Act are still underway, and the schedule could change if lawmakers reach a bipartisan breakthrough. Currently, Republican leaders would require unanimous consent from all 100 senators to complete outstanding items without extending the session into next week.
Thune may still file cloture before the August recess. While this would not constitute a vote on the legislation, it could position the bill for a vote when senators return in mid-September.
We're getting that queued up first thing when we come back.
