A whale appeared off the Polish seaside resort of Miedzyzdroje on Saturday afternoon, according to the Polish news agency PAP. The sighting follows earlier whale sightings reported in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany, including an appearance in the port of Wismar at the end of July and another near the Wustrow pier in the open Baltic Sea.
Polish water rescuers released a video on social media showing the whale's blowhole and gray-white spotted back. The whale was swimming freely and was not entangled in fishing nets, according to reports. A water rescue boat escorted the animal eastward until late afternoon near the coastal village of Wiselka to protect it from watercraft.
The Polish water rescue service WOPR informed WWF's Blue Patrol, which checked the condition of the whale.
Species unconfirmed
A spokesman for the environmental organization WWF Poland told the German Press Agency (DPA) that it could not be determined if the whale was the same specimen seen in Germany or what its species was.

Previous sightings in Germany occurred in Wismar and off Fischland-Darß-Zingst. Following the Wismar appearance, a second whale was observed two days later at the height of the Wustrow pier, though it remained unclear if that animal was the same one seen in Wismar.
