Date unknown Background
The Colombian Parliament approved the plan for the presidential inauguration to take place in a military garrison.
Both chambers of the Colombian Parliament have approved Abelardo de la Espriella's intention to be sworn in with the presidential sash at a military garrison. This planned inauguration is scheduled for Friday, August 7.
The decision follows a proposal to hold the ceremony in one of Colombia's most heavily contested regions. While the plan has been approved by Parliament, the outgoing President, Gustavo Petro, does not support the inauguration taking place in a military garrison.
