Bank of Japan's JGB Purchase Reductions Impact Markets

  2. · date approximate Background

The Bank of Japan began gradually reducing its outright purchases of long-term JGBs.

Since the summer of 2024, the Bank of Japan has been gradually reducing its outright purchases of long-term Japanese government bonds (JGBs). This reduction process is based on a plan decided during the Bank of Japan's Monetary Policy Meeting.

As the central bank makes progress in reducing these purchases, the functioning of the JGB markets has been steadily improving. This has allowed long-term interest rates to be formed more freely within financial markets.
