US House Ethics Committee recommends censure for Rep. Chuck Edwards
-
· date approximate Background
The US House Ethics Committee launched a probe into US Representative Chuck Edwards over allegations of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment.
In mid-May 2026, the US House Ethics Committee launched a probe into US Representative Chuck Edwards (R-N.C.) following allegations of sexual harassment and the creation of a hostile work environment. According to reports, the investigation involved allegations that Edwards singled out two young female staffers in their 20s for special attention that multiple sources described as inappropriate.
The committee described the conduct regarding the two staff members as 'highly unprofessional.' While Edwards stated he would welcome any investigation and denied wrongdoing, calling the accusations 'horseshit' in May, the committee later found that he violated House Rules by failing to adhere to the spirit of rules prohibiting sexual harassment and unwanted advances to staffers. The investigation also concluded that Edwards violated the Code of Official Conduct by failing to act in a manner that reflects creditably upon the House.
As a result, the bipartisan US House Ethics Committee recommended that Edwards be censured and intended to bring a privileged resolution for a vote by the full House. Because the committee does not have the authority to punish members directly, a censure by the full House requires a simple majority.
