The Ebola outbreak in eastern Congo was declared.
On 15 May, an Ebola outbreak was declared in eastern Congo, which has been linked to the Bundibugyo virus. The declaration followed the reporting of 246 suspected cases and 65 deaths in the Ituri province.
The outbreak has been noted for its rapid growth, progressing at a quicker pace than the 2014-2016 epidemic. Response efforts have faced challenges including difficulties in accessing affected regions, delays in contact tracing, community mistrust, and violence from armed groups and residents.
