    In January, crypto analytics firm Chainalysis reported that up to $17 billion in cryptocurrency was lost globally to scams and frauds during 2025. The data indicated that the average loss per victim reached approximately 173 million won ($119,000).

    The analysis highlighted a rise in sophisticated criminal methods, specifically noting that perpetrators increasingly utilized artificial intelligence and impersonation tactics to execute these frauds.

    In October 2025, a fraudulent staking site impersonating Flare Network and its FXRP token operated for eight days. The site, hosted at Fxrpntwork.com, promised investors monthly returns of 1.5% to 1.8% with principal guaranteed.

    The scheme collected approximately 3.4 million XRP from 71 victims before shutting down on October 23, after which the operators disappeared. An overseas exchange alerted police in October about a surge in staking-related fraud, helping to uncover the operation.
