· date approximate Background
Mastercard agreed to acquire BVNK for up to $1.8 billion.
In March 2026, Mastercard agreed to acquire the stablecoin infrastructure company BVNK for a deal valued at up to $1.8 billion. The acquisition follows a previously abandoned $2 billion transaction between Coinbase and BVNK that had reached the due diligence stage in November 2025.
The move is intended to connect digital assets and traditional payment rails by combining Mastercard's network with BVNK's on-chain infrastructure. This integration is expected to allow institutions, fintechs, and enterprises to expand their use of stablecoins and tokenized assets for cross-border business payments, settlements, and treasury flows.
Through this tie-up, banks may be able to offer stablecoin payment services and connect customer accounts to wallets, while payment providers could enable round-the-clock merchant settlement. BVNK's platform, which supports payments across major blockchain networks in more than 130 countries, will allow customers to continue using their existing teams, products, and integrations.
