The US General Services Administration (GSA) began delivering buildings under Langley's 20-year campus revitalization plan.
Under a 20-year campus revitalization plan, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) began delivering new buildings to NASA's Langley Research Center.
One of the facilities delivered under this partnership is the Flight Dynamics Research Facility. This facility serves as the first major new wind tunnel for the center in over 40 years, replacing two older wind tunnel facilities.

· date approximate Background
NASA's last major new wind tunnel was commissioned over 40 years ago.
For more than 40 years, NASA did not commission a major new wind tunnel until the opening of the Flight Dynamics Research Facility at the Langley Research Center.
The new facility at the Hampton, Virginia site was designed to provide a platform for testing technologies intended to shape future exploration and aviation. It serves as a replacement for existing infrastructure's capabilities, notably offering top airspeeds twice as fast as the previous wind tunnel facilities at the center.
