Apple is working on a second-generation iPhone Air model, which is expected to be released in the first quarter of 2027.
Investment analyst Jeff Pu shared information regarding the new iPhone Air model. A research note prepared by GF Securities states that the device will feature five key innovations.
Hardware and Connectivity Upgrades
The new iPhone Air model will include a second Ultra Wide rear camera with 48 megapixel resolution in addition to the existing Fusion lens. The Dynamic Island area on the screen is expected to be slightly smaller than the current model.
The device is predicted to maintain a 6.5-inch screen size and feature 12GB of RAM capacity. An 18 megapixel Center Stage front camera is also expected.
The iPhone Air 2 will use the A20 Pro chip developed with TSMC's 2nm production process. This chip will offer higher speed and energy efficiency
Predicted memory capacity for the second-generation iPhone Air.
A second-generation N2 chip will be included to update wireless connectivity technologies. This chip will support Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread, while improving the performance of features like AirDrop and Personal Hotspot. Additionally, a second-generation C2 chip will be used for 5G connectivity.
Release Timeline and Upcoming Models
Apple plans to announce the iPhone Air 2 model around March 2027, alongside the standard iPhone 18 and entry-level iPhone 18e. Information regarding the iPhone Air 2 has not yet been confirmed by Apple.
