BMW has introduced the new iX5 Long Wheelbase (LWB) and X5 LWB models exclusively for the Chinese market. These China-specific versions of the X5 and iX5 are BMW's longest-wheelbase SUVs, featuring a wheelbase of 3,165 mm (124.6 inches). This measurement is 130 mm (5.1 inches) longer than the versions sold in Europe, the United States, and other global markets.
The iX5 LWB in China has a CLTC driving range of over 1,000 km (620 miles). While the CLTC cycle is noted to be more optimistic than the WLTP rating used in Europe, the current BMW iX5 60 xDrive in Europe utilizes a 141 kWh battery with a WLTP range of up to 525 miles (750 km). For the United States, the 2027 BMW iX5 60 xDrive is expected to offer a range of approximately 435 miles based on a 144 kWh battery, though EPA estimates are not yet finalized.

Interior technology and driver assistance
The China-specific models include a passenger screen for the first time in these models. Rear passengers will have access to a BMW Theater Screen, which consists of an 8K entertainment screen. Additionally, both China-specific models will be equipped with adaptive two-axle air suspension as standard.
BMW developed the driver assistance system for these models in partnership with the Chinese company Momenta. The system features “Address-to-Address” functionality, which is navigation-linked and operates on a point-to-point basis.
Design and production
The LWB variant features exclusive 'striking diagonal light icons' and additional light strips positioned between the lights and the illuminated Kidney Iconic Glow grille. The China-specific X5 and iX5 will be produced locally in China and are scheduled to officially launch in 2027.
In testing around Qinghai Lake, a BMW iX3 50L xDrive (LWB) prototype reached an energy consumption of 20.3 kWh/100 miles (12.6 kWh/100 km).
