BYD has opened orders for the Ti 7 in the UK, marking the arrival of the company's first seven-seat SUV in the European and UK markets.
The Ti 7 is a plug-in hybrid SUV featuring a boxy design that resembles the Toyota Land Cruiser and the Land Rover Defender.
In the UK, the vehicle is available solely in the flagship Excellence AWD trim.
Powertrain and performance
The Ti 7 is the first vehicle in the UK to be equipped with BYD's DM-p (Dual Mode performance) powertrain, which is based on the company’s Super Hybrid DM technology.
BYD stated that its DM-p powertrain 'vastly exceeds the closest competition.'
Reports on the powertrain configuration vary. Some sources report the system utilizes a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and three electric motors, while others indicate the use of a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine and two electric motors.
Combined power output of the Ti 7 powertrain
The powertrain delivers a combined 402 hp (408 PS), allowing the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 4.8 seconds.
The SUV is equipped with a 35.6 kWh battery pack, providing an electric-only driving range of up to 74 miles (119 km).
In city driving, the electric range can reach up to 102 miles, while the top speed is reported at 118 mph (190 km/h).
Interior and features
The Ti 7 includes leather upholstery as standard, acoustic glass for the windscreen and front windows, and a panoramic glass roof.
The cabin features a 15.6-inch infotainment screen, a 10.25-inch driver display, and an 18-speaker sound system.
Additional equipment includes a built-in refrigerator located between the driver and front passenger.
Regarding seating, the middle-row seats can be adjusted in four directions. When the second and third rows are folded, the total boot capacity is 1,830 liters. There are conflicting reports regarding seat heating and ventilation; some sources state these are available for the front seats and the outer seats in the second row, while others report they are available in the first two rows.
Pricing and comparisons
In the UK, the Ti 7 has a starting price of £47,995. This is £16,320 cheaper than the Land Rover Defender 110 PHEV, which has a starting price of £71,840.
WLTP electric range of the Land Rover Defender 110 PHEV
The Land Rover Defender 110 PHEV offers a WLTP electric range of up to 31.1 miles. In comparison, the Defender 110 S comes standard with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine developing 250 hp.
The Defender 110 PHEV produces 300 hp and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 7.4 seconds.
BYD stated the Ti 7 offers 'a level of equipment that exceeds anything that its rivals can offer at this price point.'
Customers can pre-order the Ti 7 with a £500 deposit, which BYD says it will match. Full details of the vehicle are expected to be revealed soon, with customer deliveries projected to begin in January 2027.
BYD also noted that the Ti 7's seven-seat arrangement was specifically designed for the European and UK markets. The company added that the engine generates electricity for the battery 'for the most part.'
