Anthropic confirmed the issue on its status page at status.claude.com. The company identified a high error rate affecting requests to Claude Mythos 5, Claude Fable 5, Claude Opus 5, and Claude Sonnet 5. Anthropic stated it is working on a fix for the error rate.
Downdetector data showed an increase in reports for Claude on August 5, 2026, with a sudden peak in reports in the late morning. Data also showed error reports remaining at low levels throughout the day, punctuated by several distinct spikes in different time periods.
While some users reported increased response times, Numerama's tests on Claude did not confirm any malfunction at the time of writing.
