The Ariane 6 rocket launched on its inaugural flight, designated VA262, on 9 July 2024. The vehicle is Europe's newest heavy-lift rocket, designed to succeed the Ariane 5.
The Ariane 6 launcher configuration includes an upgraded main stage, a choice of either two or four boosters, and a new restartable upper stage. This architecture allows the rocket to deliver greater power and flexibility at a lower cost compared to its predecessors.
A key capability of the Ariane 6 is its ability to launch multiple missions into different orbits on a single flight, a feature enabled by the restartable upper stage. At the end of its mission, the upper stage will deorbit itself, reducing space debris.

In recognition of the launch, an image of the Ariane 6 liftoff was selected as part of an eight-stamp collector's set initiated by La Poste de Guyane, the regional branch of La Poste in French Guiana.
