Ford is reportedly developing a four-door sedan version of the Mustang, referred to as the Mustang Mach 4. The automaker showed a physical prototype of the vehicle to dealer officials at a private gathering in Las Vegas, US, last week.
The four-door Mustang Mach 4's size and shape are being compared to a Porsche Panamera. It may be built on a stretched version of the current Mustang's chassis, though this detail is described as a rumor in some reports.
The vehicle is expected to feature a hybrid powertrain, specifically a hybrid V8, according to two attendees who spoke to The Wall Street Journal. Performance expectations include reaching 60 mph in less than 4.0 seconds.
The Mustang Mach 4 is expected to be released toward the end of the decade. It may initially be available only in the US market, although this availability has not been verified.
Competitor Moves in Four-Door Segment
General Motors is reportedly preparing a four-door Camaro revival with rear-wheel drive, a V8, and possibly a manual gearbox. This project has reportedly slipped to the 2029 model year.
The Dodge Charger is available with turbocharged inline-six and fully electric options, with a V8 also reportedly being considered.
