Rescue teams in the Sabra neighborhood of southern Gaza have recovered 99 bodies from the rubble of a building belonging to the Abu Sharia and al-Hasayine families, according to local civil defense officials. The building was struck by Israeli warplanes in October 2023 and again on June 7, 2025.
The recovery operation underscores the scale of destruction in Gaza, where rescue teams say thousands of bodies remain buried under rubble from ongoing Israeli attacks. The October 2025 ceasefire agreement's first phase allows heavy machinery into the area, but Israel has kept border crossings closed, preventing aid and equipment from entering.
Civil defense teams are currently operating with only one machine. They say that with international equipment support, the clearance process could be completed in about three months. Approximately 8,500 bodies are still believed to be under the rubble waiting to be recovered, according to unconfirmed estimates.
Meanwhile, 60 Palestinian prisoners were released from Israeli detention and brought to Khan Yunis via the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The released individuals were taken to Nasser Hospital for medical checks.
According to Palestinian and international human rights organizations, over 9,600 Palestinian prisoners are held in Israeli prisons, including 350 children and 84 women.
