The recovery operation to retrieve the 112 bodies began.
In August 2024, Civil Defence teams concluded a two-week recovery operation to retrieve the bodies of 112 victims. The operation, which involved 136 hours of work, took place in the Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City after teams were finally able to access the site in mid-July.
During the process, relatives of the victims were present at the site to guide the Civil Defence crews during the excavation. The recovered bodies were draped in Palestinian flags and placed near the ruins of the destroyed homes during the funeral.
The recovery efforts were supported by the International Committee of the Red Cross, which provided training, material support, and rented excavators. Despite the conclusion of this specific operation, officials noted that many others remained missing under the rubble of buildings destroyed by Israeli attacks.
