A 30-year-old German tourist died after being pulled into the sea by strong waves at Freedom Beach on Phuket island, Thailand. Freedom Beach is located on the west coast of Phuket, which is situated in the Andaman Sea.
The Bangkok Post reported the death, citing the Thailand Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
While the male tourist died, rescue workers were able to bring the female German tourist to safety.
Search operations and weather conditions
A search operation was initiated but had to be suspended on Monday evening due to strong winds, high waves, and poor visibility. Rescue teams resumed the search on Tuesday and discovered the lifeless body of the German man.
Government reports stated that authorities had placed red warning flags at the beach on Monday due to dangerous conditions. Phuket is the largest island in Thailand and one among the country's tourist destinations.
