Google adds vibe coding to its AI certificate

Google has launched a new vibe coding course as part of its Google AI Professional Certificate. The company states that the existing credential is the most popular generative AI certificate of all time on Coursera since it launched in February.

Vibe coding is defined as the practice of describing desired outcomes in everyday language while artificial intelligence handles the technical code required to build and deploy an application. U.S. search interest for this term has risen by 140% on average compared to last year, based on data from August 3, 2025, to August 3, 2026.

The new course requires no prior coding experience. It instructs learners on how to plan, test, debug, and deploy an app. Millions of people have reportedly learned to use AI through Google's broader AI curriculum.

Corporate adoption

Deloitte, Verizon, Lyft, and Walmart are using the Google AI Professional Certificate to train their teams. At Walmart, former truck driver Leo Garcia used skills from the certificate to design four custom applications to optimize operations across several states.

One of Garcia’s apps, called 'Get My Driver Home,' coordinates shifts for drivers and condensed daily reporting meetings into 15-minute huddles. Walmart continues to review associate-created apps like Garcia's.

Verizon is offering the certificate to help its workforce build AI fluency. Graduates are applying these skills to projects ranging from basic email drafting to building customized tools like virtual quoting assistants in Gemini Notebook.

Donna Epps, Verizon’s Chief Responsible Business Officer, stated that the training has played a key role in helping the company deliver more dynamic experiences for the communities it serves. She added that adding new vibe coding resources will enhance this impact.

Epps noted that Verizon has offered the Google AI Professional Certificate to small business customers, participants in the Verizon Small Business Digital Ready program, current management employees, and former employees through the Reskilling and Career Transition Fund.
