Google has stated that upcoming software updates will address battery drain issues affecting Google Pixel phones. The company marked the issue as closed on an Issue Tracker thread, despite ongoing reports from users claiming the drain remains significant.
The battery drain issues have been reported by users for several months, following reports in April that software updates were causing the problem. Affected users noted that the drain could occur even when devices were set to airplane mode, with some reporting that the CPU appeared to run continuously in the background during periods of inactivity.
Some users reported that battery life was effectively cut in half, with some devices offering only a few hours of usage. A fix for the reported idle drain issue was merged in the July MPR (CP2A.260705.006) release for the Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 series.
Update schedule and model availability
Google stated that the July update for Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 series devices should resolve the battery drain issues. Additionally, the company stated that Pixel 8a and Pixel 9a will receive a fix in September.
Google did not announce a fix for older affected devices, including the Pixel 7 and Pixel 8 series.
